Great - Just works with many files that Windows Media Player can't handle. Even broken files. I use it for everything.

Great - one of the first programs I install on any computer I'm going to use.
~ anonymous on Jan 16, 2010

Great - Plays pretty much everything without having to install a bunch of different players that all fight over who gets to be the default player.
~ anonymous on Jan 16, 2010

Just OK - not that great
doesn't play a lot of files that work in windows media player
poorly laid out gui lots of cryptic poorly written instructions
image quality often worse then windows media player, even with std non windows formats
~ anonymous on Jan 16, 2010

Great - Plays just about everything. No codec trouble, no annoying bitmapped UI, no bloatware, doesn't try to push any product/service/channels, no multitude of different players for DVD, Divx, flv, etc.
~ anonymous on Jan 16, 2010

Great - The best linux player there ever is!!!
~ anonymous on Jan 14, 2010

Great - Plays almost any format and while you are still downloading.

~ anonymous on Jan 13, 2010

Great - VLC is simple and it just works.
~ anonymous on Jan 12, 2010

Great - Its free, stable and supports a wide variety of media. Just because it doesn't support all types is no reason to diss it- give these developers a break!
~ anonymous on Jan 11, 2010

Just OK - Doesn't support EVR (Vista/Win7), so I cant playback 1080i hidef AVCHD without stuttering. MPC (and Win Media player) does support EVR, and plays it flawlessly.
~ anonymous on Jan 10, 2010

Great - Runs almost anything that has video content!
~ anonymous on Jan 8, 2010

Great - The Best Program to play all the media files U ever had and its completely free. Long Live VLC and VideoLAN team.
~ anonymous on Nov 22, 2009

Great - Powerful, versatile, and not as much of a resource hog as a lot of other media players.
~ anonymous on Nov 20, 2009

Just OK - Used to be better than great, but it all fell apart after version 0.8. Later versions are just riddled with problems and instability, as is evident from multiple discussions on tech sites. The new interface is poor. The developers have particular disdain for their Windows users. And still no support for AMR sound for smart phone videos ?
~ anonymous on Nov 19, 2009

Great - Works exceptionally well in both the PC and MAC worlds! With hardware video device support, this tool is one of the best!
~ anonymous on Nov 19, 2009

Great - This media player is awesome. Until a recent request by Micro$oft to stop supporting asx and wmv it would play everything i tried on it. It also handles hardware video devices enabling you to stream web cams, tuner cards, etc out over the network. This is video player is unmatched. Keep up the good work VideoLan

Great - Plays everything and even allows to set a buffer for over-the-network viewing, perfect on both Windows and MacOS X.
~ anonymous on Oct 6, 2009

Great - this plays everything or just about everything
~ anonymous on Oct 4, 2009

Great - Simply the best. It will play nearly any format of video file available without the need of third-party codec installations. Many options while remaining light weight and minimalistic.
~ anonymous on Sep 22, 2009

Great - Same program on Mac, PC, Linux. plays files the other players won't.
~ anonymous on Sep 22, 2009

Great - Plays everything known to mankind, without needing to find a codec for it.
~ anonymous on Sep 22, 2009

Just OK - not as good a media player classic
~ anonymous on Sep 21, 2009

Great - It is THE media solution. You name it, VLC can do it. Transcoding, ripping, streaming oh and playing it can do that too. It's a great program and it is my primary media player on all my computers and my PortableApps install.
~ guitarMan666 on Sep 20, 2009

Great - It just works with every video format out there.
~ anonymous on Jul 30, 2009

Just OK - Shitty mkv support
~ anonymous on Jul 22, 2009

Great - Plays anything, out of the box.
~ anonymous on Jul 22, 2009

Just OK - Runs great except the video support......... someday they'll quit blaming the hdwe and someone competent will fix the incessant hanging or perhaps wise up and create a useful logger so the rest of us can figure the DRM (probable) hangs. 1.00 still NFG on most W2K cfgs. Veg-a-matic
~ anonymous on Jul 22, 2009

Great - Fantastic Media player, plays almost anything you can throw at it. I would highly recommend this media player for it's functionality and portability.
~ Jonathan Chance on Jul 22, 2009

Great - Plays almost everything and is cross-platform. :)

~ anonymous on Jun 23, 2009

Great - Quite good in supporting varied formats but UI and short-cut key's usebility aspect is quite poor.

Great - One of (if not the) best and most versatile media players around!
~ anonymous on Jun 23, 2009

Great - This is the end-all be all of audio/video players. Regardless of the platform, I always install VLC. The built in features and supported formats really are unrivaled.
~ anonymous on Jun 22, 2009

Great - Plays just about anything in any manner you want, remote, local, with filters, transcoding, etc...
~ anonymous on Jun 1, 2009

~ anonymous on Apr 9, 2009

Just OK - Not much support for soft sub formats
~ anonymous on Apr 8, 2009

Just OK - "Skips" a lot when I have a number of applications loaded.
~ anonymous on Apr 8, 2009

Great - Great for anything but Subs and HD video. Other then that, you're good.
~ CCubed on Apr 8, 2009

Great - Plays anything. ANYTHING.
~ anonymous on Apr 7, 2009

Great - Can play _anything_
~ anonymous on Apr 6, 2009

Just OK - Far worse than "just OK", the 0.9 releases stink! Stability issues, codec incompatibilities, and the outright OMISSION of previous features (e.g. the critical Streaming Wizard) make 0.9 vastly INFERIOR to the 0.8 releases that precede it. The VLC team has screwed up big time.
~ anonymous on Apr 6, 2009

Great - It'll "just work" for more formats than any other media player out there.
~ anonymous on Apr 3, 2009

Great - it will play everything, and play everything well. easy to use, good controls. it's only cluttered if you don't know what you're doing, and have for some reason decided to use the advanced controls interface in spite of that.

VLC works when nothing else does.
~ anonymous on Apr 3, 2009

Just OK - Cluttered interface, spotty support for formats that the website states support exists for.
~ anonymous on Apr 3, 2009

Great - Plays ANYTHING.
~ Cameron Bracken on Apr 1, 2009

Great - I can use VLC whether I'm on a Linux box, a Mac, or Windows. It's convenient, feature-rich, and easy to use.
~ anonymous on Mar 31, 2009

Great - I never have to download another codec pack ever again. Audio or Video VLC handles it smooth as silk. Keep up the great work!
~ anonymous on Mar 31, 2009

Just OK - has stability problems, especially when dealing with complex options.
~ anonymous on Mar 31, 2009

Great - Plays pretty much anything. Kicks the likes of iTunes, Quicktime, Windows Media to pieces.
~ anonymous on Mar 30, 2009

Great - It plays all formats... ignore the other poster.
~ anonymous on Mar 30, 2009

Great - All you need.
~ anonymous on Mar 30, 2009

Great - I haven't found anything it WON'T play
~ anonymous on Mar 30, 2009

Great - plays anything
~ anonymous on Mar 30, 2009

Great - Plays everything I throw at it. And saves, transcodes, streams it, too.
~ anonymous on Mar 30, 2009

Just OK - Doesn't play files that windows media player does.

~ anonymous on Mar 30, 2009

Great - I use it to play DVDs on my windows machine all the time -- works great!
~ anonymous on Mar 30, 2009

Great - One of the best for windows. Plays DVDs, and almost any media file. Has completely replaced WMP for video for me.
