Great - It's free, it has plugin support (including transparent FTP which I find invaluable) and most features found in commercial text editors like UltraEdit.

Great - All round excellent text editor, with excellent plugins such as the html tidy plugin

Great - Macros are useful. Great all round text-editor. TextFX plugins are handy too.

Regular expression find & replace is neat.

Great - I'm a Unix programmer and I also help with the code for the FOSS X11/GTK-based Source Code Editor; Bluefish; However, when I have to work/code/etc on a Windows box, the first thing I do is install Notepad++ and Cygwin!!! Out of the box it's absolutely wonderful. With additional plugins, etc. it only gets better! I've been using it for ~4 years (or more?) now and I don't ever recommend any other FOSS source code/text editor for windows to any coder/etc that I meetl Great work!!!
~ anonymous on Mar 2, 2010

Great - Just does what it claims to do really well.
~ anonymous on Feb 28, 2010

Great - Notepad++ is my favourite syntax highlighting editor when I don't want to launch a whole IDE.

Great - Gr8 but there is no version for Linux. Works fine under Wine, but it is not the same gr8 experience.

Great - Awesome

Great - Great, *but* download button points to version 5.4.4 and 5.6.6 is available!
~ anonymous on Feb 10, 2010

Great - Just like TextPad but free!
~ anonymous on Feb 9, 2010

Great - Could be superb if it was multiplatform :/

Great - Notepad++ is on my must have list!

Great - Blazing good, fast, feature-rich text editor.
Two complaints: html.erb syntax highlighting isn't supported... and windows only.

Great - This product is great. I tried all the text editors (for Windows) and they all good features but none of them had all the features and ability to configure them as Notepad++ does. I love it and get all my co-workers to use it as well.

Great - If you do any development work on Windows, you need this.
~ anonymous on Dec 14, 2009

Great - It is a must-have. I'm a software developer and probably using only 20% of its features. F**k win built-in notepad...that's the stuff.
~ anonymous on Dec 14, 2009

Just OK - I'd give this to my grandma if she started developing. I'd also tell her to try RoR or VB. - anon
~ anonymous on Dec 14, 2009

Great - Hardly any editor comes close either on windows and linux on being light, fast, feature packed, useful and free. Great for php and web developing I wish there was a native version in linux (I use in wine currently and works fine), maybe the closest are geany and kate but kate is heavy and geany's multiview is very limited and has some sintax highliting stability problems
~ anonymous on Dec 13, 2009

Great - outstanding
~ anonymous on Dec 11, 2009

Great - Small, fast, handles huge files syntax highlighting, great search, good quality.

Great - It's fast and lightweight (opens instantly, no matter how many tabs you have saved), does intelligent syntax highlighting for nearly anything you'd care to open, and has all the general purpose commands and hotkeys that every programmer can't do without.

For speed, balance between utility and simplicity, and ease of use (an important consideration!) it has everything else beat hands down.
~ anonymous on Dec 5, 2009

Great - Handles large file with ease.
~ anonymous on Dec 5, 2009

Just OK - Only losers care about anything other than Emacs, Vim and Yi.
~ anonymous on Dec 5, 2009

Great - Lightweight yet powerful. Doesn't handle very large files though :(
~ anonymous on Dec 4, 2009

Great - wish they made it for unix too
~ anonymous on Dec 4, 2009

Great - kind of clunky, but still more lightweight than a full-fledged IDE and tons better than notepad.
~ anonymous on Dec 4, 2009

Just OK - too clunky

Great - evolution of notepad
~ anonymous on Dec 2, 2009

Great - I use it every day at work and at home. Notepad++ is great.
~ anonymous on Dec 1, 2009

Great - Comparing Notepad++ to TextPad it only has 2 flaws. The User defined Syntax highlighting is a bit weaker and it tends to choke on large files. Other than that it's great
~ anonymous on Dec 1, 2009

Just OK - With this one it's back to the old style of using computer programs: save early and save often, because it's going to crash often.
~ anonymous on Dec 1, 2009

Great - Most of my students use this text editor; it's well received and promoted in the classroom and outside the classroom! A job well done!
~ anonymous on Nov 30, 2009

Great - Works even for very large files,

Great - simplicity
~ anonymous on Nov 28, 2009

Great - Powerful and lightweight. Has plug-ins that do just about anything and a record feature that simplifies making macros. Another user commented on stability. I've had a few problems with some builds and none with others. The occasional hiccups don't bother me too much because I can't live without it.
~ Aaron on Nov 27, 2009

Great - Best free editor available for Windows. Ignore negative reviews about stability, saving often helps. I can't recall the last time Notepad++ has crashed on me.
~ anonymous on Nov 27, 2009

Just OK - It's really not acceptable for an editor to crash. That is one application that needs to be rock-stable. Out of the dozens of editors I've used and tested over the last few years, Notepad++ is one of the very few that crashed.
~ anonymous on Nov 27, 2009

Great - good, lightweight, better than notepad.exe...and fyi it will replace it. No more using wordpad to work around notepad's limitations!

Great - I had the same experience everyone else had. Once I started using it I didn't stop. I used to use linux on the desktop for many many years, but recently switched to Windows..infact Vista is the first windows OS i've ever used on a daily basis. And having notepad++ there for all the editing and coding is great! It's nice to see such a high quality piece of software made by a community. Thanks!
~ anonymous on Apr 3, 2009

Great - I started using notepad++ a few months ago and loved it.
After using unix all day it is nice to know that i can have a great editor in windows that allows for syntax highlighting, dos2unix conversion and built-in diff.
~ anonymous on Apr 3, 2009

Great - It is way better than any other Notepad with the name. Like Notepad with Major Steroids...
The Best Around..
~ Marine2009 on Apr 3, 2009

Great - I can't find a better programmer's notepad anywhere; this is simply the best! It is the real reason to install wine on linux.
~ anonymous on Apr 2, 2009

Great - Notepad++ is an essential tool for any hand coder/programmer. 'Nuff said!
