Transmission is a fast, easy, and free multi-platform BitTorrent client. It features encryption, a web-based interface, peer exchange, UPnP and NAT-PMP port forwarding, web seed support, watch directories, tracker editing, global and per-torrent speed limits, and more.
DC++ announces the freedom to share! DC++ is an open source client for Windows for the Direct Connect network. Direct Connect allows you to share files over the Internet without restrictions or limits. The client is completely free of advertisements and has a nice, easy to use interface. Firewall and router support is integrated and it is easy and convenient to use functionality like multi-hub connections, auto-connections and resuming of downloads.
aMule is a free peer-to-peer (P2P) file sharing application. It works with the EDonkey and Kad networks. aMule stands for all-platform Mule. aMule is an eMule-like client for the eD2k and Kademlia networks, supporting multiple platforms. Currently aMule (officially) supports a wide variety of platforms and operating systems, being compatible with more than 60 different hardware+OS configurations. aMule is entirely free, its sourcecode released under the GPL just like eMule, and includes no adware or spyware as is often found in proprietary P2P applications. aMule is built upon the wxWidgets (formerly wxWindows) toolkit, which enables it to support multiple platforms.
eMule is one of the most popular peer-to-peer (P2P) file sharing clients. The client connects to both the eDonkay and Kad networks, and facilitates direct exchange of sources between client nodes. It provides fast recovery of corrupted downloads, and uses a credit system to reward frequent uploaders. eMule transmits data in zlib-compressed form to save bandwidth.
Ares is a free open source file sharing program that enables users to share any digital file including images, audio, video, software, documents, etc. Supports BitTorrent protocol and Shoutcast radio stations. With Ares users can also join chat rooms or host their channel and meet new friends.
Shareaza is a peer-to-peer client for Windows that allows you to download any file found on the EDonkey2000, Gnutella, BitTorrent, and Gnutella2 (G2) P2P networks. Not only that, but Shareaza is completely FREE and won't show any annoying ads or pop-ups. It won't install any unwanted third party programs that can wreak havoc with your computer. No spyware, no registration, no "paid version". Just download and use. Simple.
GNUnet is a framework for secure peer-to-peer networking that does not use any centralized or otherwise trusted services. A first service implemented on top of the networking layer allows anonymous censorship-resistant file sharing. Anonymity is provided by making messages originating from a peer indistinguishable from messages that the peer is routing. All peers act as routers and use link-encrypted connections with stable bandwidth utilization to communicate with each other. GNUnet uses a simple, excess-based economic model to allocate resources. Peers in GNUnet monitor each others behavior with respect to resource usage; peers that contribute to the network are rewarded with better service.
ed2k-gtk-gui is a graphical user interface (GUI) for the eDonkey2000 and Overnet file sharing programs. Thanks to the RIAA, these two networks are now shut down, so this software is fairly useless except as an example of how to code a file sharing client.
Cabos is Gnutella file sharing program based on LimeWire and Acquisition. Cabos provides a simple sidebar interface, Mojito DHT support, firewall to firewall transfers, UPnP support, IP2Country support, and iTunes integration.
MUTE is a secure, anonymous, distributed communications framework. Node-to-node connections are encrypted, and messages are routed using an ant-inspired algorithm. The first MUTE-based app supports anonymous file sharing.
LimeWire is a fast, easy-to-use file sharing program for the Gnutella network. LimeWire is the world's most popular peer-to-peer file-sharing program. With over 70 million unique monthly users, the software is downloaded hundreds of thousands of times every day and boasts millions of active users at any given moment. LimeWire uses the BitTorrent protocol and the Gnutella network to provide an unparalleled searches and download speed to the user. As always, LimeWire takes the security of its users very seriously and will never bundle spyware, adware, or viruses.
MLDonkey is a multi-network, multiplatform peer-to-peer file sharing program. MLDonkey has been developed since January 2002 [1] and has been hosted by http://savannah.nongnu.org, a development site for free software that is not part of the GNU Project, since Feb. 19, 2002. It was started by Fabrice Le Fessant and Simon Patarin who work at INRIA to prove the capabilities of the Ocaml language. MLDonkey was originally intended as a pure eDonkey2000 clone, running on Unix and Linux, a sector that the original client never served well. Since the release of version 2, there has also been development to access other networks, most notably the eDonkey2000 offspring Overnet, BitTorrent, Kademlia and DirectConnect.
ANts P2P is an anonymous file sharing network. It encrypts and proxies traffic between participants in the network to make it harder to determine the originating IP addresses and thus protect your privacy.
gtk-gnutella is a client and server for the Gnutella file sharing network. It has been optimized for speed and scalability, with low memory consumption. It can be left running 24/7, using little CPU and only the configured bandwidth.
A multi-protocol filesharing client that connects to Gnutella, Ares, and its homegrown OpenFT network, which was inspired by Kazaa's FastTrack. It doesn't have UPnP support for automatic router configuration and doesn't support encryption or DHTs.
